July 2006. News update. Merton is in the process of taking possession of the site from the developers, and the Merton Priory Trust will then have a long lease of the site under the freehold ownership of LB Merton. The conservation management plan has been issued and is still open for consultation, see

and will be launched in September 2006. Once this has been adopted a set of policies will be in place to ensure the preservation and enhancement of the priory remains. We must then decide whether to proceed with a limited scheme using the funds available to us (approx £350K) or whether to apply for lottery grant for a more ambitious scheme. In the mean time some small improvements will be taking place to the area.
