It tells the story of many important events that took place in the Priory\, where both the only English Pope\, Adrian IV and Saint Thomas Becket were educated. Twenty years after Magna Carta\, in 1236\, Parliament met at Merton Priory to prepare the written parliamentary law in the form of the eleven chapters of the Statute of Merton\, the very first Statute of England.

SUMMARY:Ecumenical Service
DESCRIPTION:This is a gathering of local churches to celebrate the re-opening of Merton Priory. All warmly invited to join priests\, ministers\, leaders and worshippers gathered from the whole religious community of the borough. \nEcumenism refers to efforts by Christians of different Church traditions to develop closer relationships and better understandings. The term is also often used to refer to efforts towards the visible and organic unity of different Christian denominations in some form. Everyone of any religion (or secular outlook) are welcome.
